1965 LENHAM SPITFIRE LE MANS GT , UNIQUE HISTORIC RACE CAR , AUTHENTICATED BY LENHAM MOTOR COMPANY (Road Registered)
Spitfires along with Sprites and MG Midgets were popular road racing cars of the period And based on the GT Spitfires at Le Mans of this time a full GT conversion was designed at Lenham to capitalize on this market with a full fiberglass fastback forming an integral part of the body shell, Few were manufactured and it is believed this is the only survivor , Rebuilt a number of years ago by well respected race engine specialists ‘Classic & Modern Engine Services' in Bracknell. ‘Moto-Build Racing' – a leading specialist in small-bore historic GT racers etc . It has an impressive race history and is well known competitor at "Goodwood" ,Twice competing in the Ford water Trophy , Eligible for many other historic events , Such as Equipe GTS. Ecurie GTS. FISK International. CSCC 'Swinging '60s' being a highly developed competition car with race gearbox along with an innovative revision of the rear suspension set up in place . The specification of the Lenham is too long to list although specification paper work is supplied with the car. Having given up sprinting and hill climbing the previous owner had the car fitted with a 1500 cc Spitfire engine, stage 2 tuned for spirited road use, and incorporating a lightened flywheel and many new parts including carburetors. The work was undertaken by Jigsaw, the Spitfire specialists , Although the Lenham Spitfire GT is supplied with its original race motor and Weber carburetors . The 1500 cc engine currently fitted is virtually new and extremely healthy. This is a very special and extremely interesting car that has the benefit of being road registered , Supplied with current V5C , Pictures of the car are on the internet and give an idea of the interest it arouses. Few of these conversions were ever sold by Lanham and the car offered is considered by historic racing pundits to be unique . Presented today in excellent structural and mechanical condition with a lovely interior and fittings , Being a racing motor car the paint work is NOT perfect but easily rectified , Comes with Supporting history being a thick bundle of papers including full specifications of both engines . An ideal entry into Historic Motor Sport at very sensible price and it can be used on the public highway! An opportunity to own something a little bit different.
