Antique Huntley & Palmers Biscuit Tin
This very charming antique deep square 10lb tin, dates from the early twentieth century, one of the earliest types of tins made. An example can be seen in Reading Museum, home town of Huntley & Palmers. Each type of biscuits made at the time would have been packed into these tins, each with their own label, ready for delivery to grocers’ shops. The biscuits would then be sold on in the required quantities in paper bags. The tins would have been made by hand, cut from a heavy sheet of tinplate & a skilled box maker could turn out up to 100 per day.
